Origin and course

Origin of the Bruchbach near Altensalzkoth - from left the Sunderbach, to the right the Kohlenbach

The Bruchbach arises north of Altensalzkoth from the confluence of the Sunderbach and the Kohlenbach. The Sunderbach rises west of Rebberlah (municipality of Eschede ), flows in a westerly direction through the Wildeck pond and past the former forester's house Rehwinkel. The Kohlenbach rises to the east of the forester's house and the Kohlenbach farmstead , which it gives its name to, and it also flows in a westerly direction. After the confluence of the two streams in Altensalzkoth, the Bruchbach flows in a southerly direction, initially through the “Scheuer Bruch” . A bog area that in the 18th century , the Saline aspic with peat supplied. The further course leads through the “Black Moor” , past Gut Hustedt and the village of Wittbeck. Large areas of the shore consist of alder break forest . Both the two source streams and the upper course of the Bruchbach flow through the Südheide Nature Park .

history

In 1649 Duke Christian Ludwig had the Heidgraben built. As a result, the Wittbeck at that time, which still flows into the Örtze south of Wolthausen as the small stream "Alte Wittbeck" , was largely diverted to the Boyer fish ponds in order to supply them with sufficient water. After that the brook flowed into the Aller. In 1690, Duke Georg Wilhelm had a duck catch built on the Boyer ponds to supply the ducal court of Celle with wild ducks for consumption.

Flora and fauna

In the Bruchbach live mud-whip , river lampreys , brook lampreys , wolffish and bullheads , which are classified nationwide as critically endangered (Category 2) on the Red List of Endangered Animals in Germany . The rare otter can also be found here. The green mermaid , a strongly built dragonfly with a wingspan of 6.5 to 7.5 cm and a body length of about 5 cm, lives on the banks of the stream. According to the Red List, this species is also classified as critically endangered (Category 2) in Germany.

The Boyer ponds and large parts of the Bruchbach are designated as FFH areas (registration no. 3226-331).

Water quality

At its source, the Kohlenbach has water quality I – II (low pollution). The Sunderbach, the lower reaches of the Kohlenbach and the upper reaches of the Bruchbach have water quality II (moderately polluted). South of Wittbeck, the water quality deteriorates to quality class II-III (critically polluted). The Warmbeck flows in from Scheuen and forms a pond area. Also in the ponds of Boye, in which the ducks are caught, the water quality deteriorates, up to the confluence with the Aller, likewise to quality class II-III.
