Bruno Banducci (born November 11, 1921 in Tassignano , Italy , † September 15, 1985 in Sonoma , California ) was an American American football player from Italy . He played as a guard in the National Football League (NFL) with the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles .

Player career

Bruno Banducci studied at Stanford University and acted as a guard for their football team. In 1941 he was able to defeat the University of Nebraska team with 21:13 in the Rose Bowl with the Stanford Indians . In 1943 he played in the East-West Shrine Game and was in the same year by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round in 42 out drafted . Banducci played in Philadelphia under coach Greasy Neale in 1944 and 1945, where he had, among other things, the task of blocking the way into the opposing end zone for running back Steve Van Buren .

After his season in Philadelphia, Banducci moved to the Buck Shaw- trained San Francisco 49ers, who were based in the newly formed All-America Football Conference (AAFC). In 1948, Banducci and his team won 12 out of 14 games, placing the team second in their division behind eventual AAFC champions Cleveland Browns . The following year, the 49ers lost 21-7 in the AAFC championship final to the Browns. After that season, the AAFC had to stop playing due to financial problems and the 49ers were accepted into the NFL. After the 1954 season, Banducci played for a year with the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League (CFL) and then ended his career.

Banducci was one of the few players who admitted to doping after his career .

Honors

Bruno Banducci played once in the Pro Bowl , the final game of the best players of the season. He was voted All Pro seven times . Banducci is a member of the NFL 1940s All-Decade Team and the Sydney and Theodore Rosenberg Stanford Athletic Hall of Fame .
