Bruno Maldaner

Bruno Maldaner (born August 4, 1924 in Pinhal Alto in Nova Petrópolis , Rio Grande do Sul , Brazil ; † November 16, 2008 in Ijuí , Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Frederico Westphalen .

Life

Bruno Maldaner studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the seminary in Gravataí (1938–1943) and in São Leopoldo in Rio Grande do Sul (1944–1947) and at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1947–1951). He received in Rome by the December 8, 1950 Cardinal Benedetto Aloisi Masella the priesthood . After pastoral work in the Archdiocese of Porto Alegre , he was professor at the seminary in Gravataí and at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul from 1951 to 1955 . From 1956 to 1965 he was active in the Apostolic Nunciature in Rio de Janeiro .

On April 15, 1966 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. Appointed Titular Bishop of Aquae in Mauretania and Auxiliary Bishop in the Archdiocese of São Paulo . The Archbishop of São Paulo and later Cardinal Curia Agnelo Rossi donated him episcopal ordination on June 29 of the same year in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Sao Paulo. Co- consecrators were the bishop of Frederico Westphalen, João Aloysio Hoffmann , and Edmundo Luís Kunz , auxiliary bishop in Porto Alegre.

As bishop he was responsible for pastoral care in the eastern region, in particular for the creation of 18 new churches. He became known as the director of the mission radio in Porto Alegre. He was also secretary of the Commission for the Regions in the Brazilian Bishops' Conference.

On May 27, 1971, Pope Paul VI appointed him. to the bishop of Frederico Westphalen.

Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation on December 12, 2001. He died after an operation of complications from heart failure in Ijuí in Rio Grande do Sul.
