Bruno Stisser (born April 13, 1592 in Halle (Saale) ; † July 31, 1646 in Braunschweig ) was a German jurist and lawyer . Stisser was assessor at the court in Wolfenbüttel , senior of the Schöppenstuhl and church mayor in Halle as well as Anhalt-Zerbster council.

Life

family

Bruno Stisser came from a family from which numerous lawyers and theologians, but also medical professionals, emerged. His grandfather Balthasar Stisser (1526–1583) was Chancellor of the Counts of Mansfeld , his father Kilian Stisser (1562–1620) was secret councilor and chancellor of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg . He married Margarethe Heil (1561-1630) in Helmstedt in 1589 , the daughter of the bookseller Wolf Heil. Bruno was the second oldest son and one of the couple's 16 children, of whom only 10 survived their father.

Professional background

Stisser attended the Halle city high school and studied law at the universities in Altdorf , Helmstedt and Jena . On the way back from a trip to Italy , Stisser received his doctorate in September 1617 at the University of Basel with the dissertation Quam [...] Auctoritate & decreto Amplißimi Ordinis Ictorum in inclyta & celeberrima Rauracorum Academia as a doctor of both rights .

From 1619 he served the dukes of Braunschweig as counselor and assessor of the court in Wolfenbüttel. Later the princes of Anhalt-Zerbst appointed him as council. In 1624 he became an assessor and in 1636 senior of the Schöppenstuhl von Halle. In 1637 he appointed Friedrich Calenus, who later became the rector of Halle's Latin school, to be tutor for his children. In addition, from 1643 Stisser worked as a church leader at the Marktkirche Our Dear Women in Halle.

Bruno Stisser died on July 31, 1646, at the age of 54, in Braunschweig. He had had stomach problems for a long time and was hoping for a cure with the help of the healing springs in Hornhausen . When there was no improvement in his condition, he traveled to Braunschweig, where he died a short time later. His remains were transferred to Halle and buried on August 6, 1646 in the town gods acre. His grave is in crypt arch 65. His gravestone was only rediscovered in 2014. It is intact and all the inscriptions have been preserved.

Of his writings, mainly his university disputations and his dissertation, all of which are written in Latin , were printed . On the occasion of his second wedding in 1632 with Elisabeth Hoffmann, the work Freundliche Brautlieder was published and in 1546 after his death a funeral sermon was published . In the pedigree of Johann Fabricius there is an entry of Stisser April 1640th

Marriages and offspring

On February 20, 1621, Bruno Stisser's first marriage was Lucia von Walbeck (1595–1630), who came from the urban patriciate of Braunschweig. She was the daughter of the Brunswick syndic Georg von Walbeck. The marriage resulted in six children, three sons and three daughters. His wife died on December 30, 1630.

In his second marriage, on February 11, 1632, Stisser married Elisabeth Hoffmann (1614–1675), the daughter of the Halle mayor Melchior Hoffmann and a niece of the doctor and art collector Laurentius Hoffmann. The couple had ten children, four sons and six daughters. Wolfgang Melchior Stisser (1632–1709), the oldest child from this marriage, became a Protestant theologian and teacher in Halle.
