Bruno Wechner (born July 1, 1908 in Götzis ; † December 28, 1999 in Bregenz ) was the first bishop of the newly founded diocese of Feldkirch in Vorarlberg .

Life

Wechner was ordained a Roman Catholic priest on July 26, 1933 . He received his doctorate as Dr. phil. and Dr. iur. can. On December 31, 1954 he was appointed titular bishop of Cartennae and vicar general and auxiliary bishop of the Apostolic Administration Innsbruck-Feldkirch for Vorarlberg in Feldkirch . On March 12, 1955, he was ordained a bishop by Bishop Paulus Rusch . On December 14, 1968, he was appointed diocesan bishop of the newly founded diocese of Feldkirch. He was Bishop of Feldkirch until 1989. In 1975 he was awarded the Gold Medal of Honor of the State of Vorarlberg for his services to the State of Vorarlberg .

Former Bishop Wechner died at the age of 92 after a short illness in the sanatorium of the Mehrerau monastery in Bregenz. After a solemn requiem under the direction of Nuncio Donato Squicciarini , Wechner was laid to rest in the bishop's crypt in Feldkirch Cathedral .

He was an honorary member of the Catholic student associations AV Austria Innsbruck and KaV Rheno-Danubia Innsbruck in the ÖCV .
