The Brunsberg near Sprötze in the district of Harburg in Lower Saxony is about 129  m above sea level. NHN high elevation of the Lohberge , the southern part of the Black Mountains , on the north-western edge of the Lüneburg Heath . The name Brunsberge used to exist alongside the term Lohberge .

Name origin

Name factor in the Bruns Berg is a tragic incident that had come after the two young shepherds, Bruns and Harms the keepers of sheep at the Bruns mountain out of boredom on the idea, "even on hanging to play" - which had to pay Bruns with his life.

The Brunsberg rises in the northern part of the Lohberge and in the north of the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park . Its summit lies between the villages of Buchholz in the north heath in the north-east and Tostedt in the west- south- west - around 1.8 km (as the crow flies ) southeast of the village church of Sprötze . It belongs to the Buchholz urban area, and the border from Buchholz to Tostedt runs past it to the south.

Natural allocation

The Brunsberg belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Lüneburger Heide (No. 64), in the main unit Hohe Heide (640) and in the sub-unit Wilseder terminal moraines (640.0) to the natural area Black Mountains (640.00).

Protected areas and landscape

The Brunsberg nature reserve is located on the Brunsberg ( CDDA no. 81478; designated 1954; 60  hectares in size). It is surrounded by conservation area Lohbergen valleys and adjacent areas (CDDA No. 322651;. 1997; 5.49  km² ). The top of the Bruns Bergs with heather (Erika) covered and is of Heidschnucken grazed.

Possibility of viewing

From the top of the Brunsberg you can see the bordering heathland and south to the Wilseder Berg ( 169.2  m ) and further to the Heidepark Soltau . To the southwest you can see the tower of the Johanneskirche in Tostedt . The view towards Hamburg is blocked by the Harburg Mountains , the northern part of the Black Mountains .

Youth holiday home

On the southwest flank of Brunsberg, about 350 m southwest of the summit, the buildings of the Sprötze youth holiday home of the youth organization Deutsche Schreberjugend (Landesverband Hamburg eV) are located.

With 127 beds it is available for group trips of all kinds to many youth groups, schools, kindergartens, associations and the groups of the Deutsche Schreberjugend Hamburg e. V. available.

Traffic and walking

To the west and south of the Brunsberg, the district road  72 leads between Sprötze and Holm-Seppensen . For example, starting on this road, the elevation can be hiked on paths and paths that initially lead through the forest and at higher altitudes through the heather landscape. The European long-distance hiking trail E1 leads across .
