The Lohberge are a maximum of about 129  m above sea level. NHN high ridge in the Harburg district in Lower Saxony . They form the southern part of the Black Mountains , the northern part of which is the Harburg Mountains . In the past, the name Brunsberge also existed alongside the name Lohberge . From a geomorphological point of view, they represent a terminal moraine formed in the Saale Ice Age. The wooded area is a popular local recreation area.

The Lohberge extend in the north-northwest of the Hohe Heide , the central terminal moraine of the Lüneburg Heath . Parts of the northern central part and the south of the landscape are in the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park , while the northern and southern central parts are outside the park. Directly north-north-west of the hilly landscape in the urban area of Buchholz in the Nordheide lies the intersection of federal highways 3 and 75 .

The transition area from the Lohberge to the Harburg Mountains adjoining it to the north is formed by the B 75, which runs roughly in a northeast-southwest direction through a depression in the Buchholz district of Steinbeck with the district of Meilsen Seppensen (to Holm-Seppensen ). On the south-eastern edge there are Holm (Holm-Seppensen) and Wörme , in the southern part Handeloh (formerly called Handorf bei Tostedt ) and on the southern tip Wintermoor , which belongs to the heath district in the direct south of the Lohberge . In this southern tip is the Dröge Heide . Looking north from Wintermoor, Welle , Höckel , Langeloh and Neddernhof line up on the western edge . Sprötze is located on the north-northwest edge .

The Lohberge are passed by the Seeve rivers in the south-east and Este in the west, which both run somewhat further away from the ridge and both flow in northerly directions into the Elbe .

Natural allocation

The Lohberge belong to the natural spatial feature unit group Luneburg Heath (no. 64) in the main unit High Heide (640) and in the sub unit Wilseder end moraine (640.0) for natural space Schwarze Berge (640.00). North of the Lohberge lies the Harburg Mountains as the northern part of the Black Mountains and to the northeast is the natural area Harburger Hügelland (644.0), which is part of the main Luheheide (644) unit. To the southeast the landscape leads over to the natural area Wilseder Berge (640.01), which is part of the Wilseder terminal moraines , and to the south-southwest to the natural area Finteler Niederungen (631.17), which is part of the main unit Wümmeniederung (631). To the west it leads to the sub-unit Tosteder Geest (634.7), which belongs to the main unit Zevener Geest (634).

Protected areas

In the north of the Lohberge lies the Brunsberg nature reserve ( CDDA no. 81478; designated 1954; 60  hectares in size). There are also parts of the landscape protection area (LSG) Lohbergen, Höllental and adjacent areas (CDDA no. 322651; 1997; 5.49  km² ) and the LSG Büsenbachtal (CDDA no. 320231; 1939; 60 ha).

Traffic and walking

North-northwest of the Lohberge, the federal highways 3 and 75 cross, west of Buchholz in the Nordheide and north of Sprötze . The B 3 runs along the western edge of the hilly landscape and the B 75 to the north. The Sprötze – Buchholz section of the Wanne-Eickel – Hamburg railway runs through the northern part of the landscape and the Buchholz – Holm-SeppensenHandelohWintermoor section of the Heidebahn runs along its eastern edge . For example, starting at these traffic routes, the ridge can be hiked. Mountain biking is a very popular leisure sport in the Lohbergen.
