Museum of Imagination
The Museum of Imagination - also known as the Buchheim Museum - is a museum in Bernried on Lake Starnberg . It opened on May 23, 2001. The founder was Lothar-Günther Buchheim . Daniel J. Schreiber has been director of the museum since August 2013 .
The building, designed by the architects Behnisch, Behnisch & Partner , was completed in October 1999. It covers around 4000 square meters and is modeled on a ship; a jetty leads out onto the lake. Various sculptures are exhibited in the surrounding park. There had been differences of opinion about the location for a long time. Buchheim's request location Feldafing on the grounds of Villa Maffei was in a referendum rejected.
The museum houses a collection of well-known expressionists with works by Erich Heckel , Emil Nolde , Ernst Ludwig Kirchner , Max Pechstein and others. a. The museum is also a folk and ethnological museum and exhibits items that Buchheim collected on his travels. Buchheim's own work can also be seen.
The Museum of Fantasy belongs to the MuSeenLandschaft Expressionismus , together with the Franz Marc Museum in Kochel am See , the Penzberg Museum , the Murnau Castle Museum and the Municipal Gallery in the Lenbachhaus .
