Burden of Grief is a German melodic death metal band from Kassel , which was founded in 1994.
Band history
Burden of Grief was founded in the summer of 1994 by Mike Huhmann (vocals), the two guitarists Oliver Eikenberg and Philipp Hanfland and drummer Christoph Schellöh in Warburg . A little later, Ulrich Busch, a bass player, was added. By the time they signed a record deal with Grind Syndicate Media , the band had recorded three demos , including one with producer Andy Classen ( Tankard , Holy Moses ). He also took over the production of the debut album Haunting Requiems , which was released in 2000. Christoph Schellöh got out after the recordings, which only contain songs from the demos. In 2001 the second album On Darker Trails followed . This appeared again on Grind Syndicate Media, but was licensed to Massacre Records , who became aware of the band when they played at Party.San and the Wave-Gotik-Treffen .
Christian Nürnberg took over the drums, but due to his military service he only played in the band for a short time and only played a few concerts. When the band found a new drummer in Carsten Schmerer, Oliver Eikenberg left. Dirk Bulmahn came as the new bass player, so that Busch could switch to guitar. With this lineup two songs were written for an Iron Maiden - and Metallica - tribute album . In 2002 the band played their biggest gig so far at the Summerbreeze . In 2003 an appearance at the Kaltenbach Open Air followed .
In 2004 a new drummer was found for the new album Fields of Salvation in Sebastian "Robb" Robrecht. With the new record company Remedy Records behind them, the band also released the album Death End Road (2007), recorded with the two newcomers Johannes “Joe” Rudolph (guitar) and Florian Bauer (bassist). In 2010 the album Follow the Flames followed , again on Massacre Records. On a limited CD with cover versions are as guests Dan Swanö , Andreas Geremia ( Tankard ) and Sabina Classen ( Holy Moses , Temple of the Absurd ) to hear.
Music genre
Burden of Grief plays melodic death / thrash metal , which takes up elements of melodic death metal from Gothenburg . The music is therefore very melodic and the riff structure is reminiscent of Iron Maiden, for example.
