Bukovina Castle

The Bukovina Castle (German Puchawein ) is the ruin of a hilltop castle in Okres Znojmo in the Czech Republic . It is located one kilometer north of Jiřice u Moravských Budějovic on the Hostim cadastre . Only small remains of the wall remain from the castle.

geography

The ruin is located at 393  m nm on the left side above the Nedveka valley on the edge of a plateau in an extensive forest area in the Jevišovka Nature Park in the Jevišovická pahorkatina ( Jaispitzer hill country ). To the northeast rises the Štírák or Škorpión (421 m nm).

history

The castle was probably built to protect the Haberner Steige, an important trade link between Bohemia and Moravia. The first written mention was made in 1173 as the seat of the Hrut of Bukovina. With the exception of a forgery from the 14th century, no news about the castle can be found from the following period. The reconstruction and enlargement of the complex, which was completed in 1337, probably began in the first quarter of the 14th century. Since Vladiken Heřman von Hostim, from the family of the Lords of Bukovina, had his seat at the Hostim fortress in 1325 , the castle was probably not inhabited at that time. From 1337 the castle was the seat of the Vladiken von Bukovina. In 1350 Hartleb, Jindřich and Smil von Bukovina owned the castle, whose property included the fortress, the farm and the village of Hostim as well as the villages of Bukovina, Jiřice , Našiměřice , Mašůvky , Chvalovice , Bojanovice , Hrušovany and Zárubice . The Vladiken family of Bukovina died out in 1417, the rule of Bukovina inherited Johann von Weitmühl on Žerotice . During the Hussite Wars , the castle including the villages of Bukovina and Hostim was burned down, the village of Bukovina near the castle remained desolate.

In the middle of the 15th century, the Lords of Lichtenburg acquired the rule of Bukovina. In 1463 the owner of Bukovina, Hynek Bítovský von Lichtenburg auf Zornstein , who was in feud with the Lords of Kunstadt , rebelled against King George of Podebrady . The king confiscated Zornstein Castle from Hynek Bítovský and besieged it in 1464 by his troops, who were able to take it the following year. In 1464 Hynek Bítovský was named with the seat of the Hostim Fortress and the Bukovina Castle. He died in 1472. Since 1481 the Bukovina castle has been considered desolate; The seat of the rulership, which remained in the possession of the Lords of Lichtenburg until 1563, became the Feste Hostim.

It is not known whether the castle was destroyed by royal troops during the Hynek Bítovský uprising. It was probably not rebuilt after it was destroyed by the Hussites and was left to decay; Archaeological investigations could not find any traces of settlement from the second half of the 15th century.

In the course of time, its name was also lost, so that it was only recorded as a desert castle until the 19th century .

investment

The construction of the castle was completed in 1337. With an area of 11–13 × 40 meters, the two- room hall was one of the largest in Moravia at the time.

Remains of the wall of the southern hall with the vault of the passage to the northern room have been preserved. There are also small remains of the castle wall and the keep . The castle wall and moat are clearly recognizable . The freely accessible ruin has been protected as a cultural monument since 1958.
