history
The Höhenburg was a medieval round castle whose first mention as Rosburg in a deed of donation from the Ottonians to the Archdiocese of Magdeburg , dates to the year 965. It stood on a hill on the edge of the Saale valley and was the last castle before the Saale flows into the Elbe . The double gate system was built in the 12th century and the Zwinger in the 16th century. From 1717 to 1936 the castle was the seat of a Prussian office and a domain . From around 1770 the castle was converted into a palace , demolished again in 1798 and rebuilt by the Counts of Barby as a Renaissance-style office building with a round corner bay window and used as a residence. In 1937 it was expanded into a regional training castle . In April 1945 the complex burned out partially and was demolished together with the farm buildings in the course of the same year, so that only the original moat , the circular wall and the double gate system with Romanesque gate tower at the front gate remained. The castle ruins were exposed again in 1995. A partial restoration took place, which also included new ponds and a new park.
description
The castle ruin is a former round castle or bank edge castle , with a broken renaissance castle , double gate system and castle cellar with barrel and cross vaults of which the remains of buildings are still preserved. The castle complex had a diameter of approx. 115 m. It is located on the western edge of the village, north of the castle the Saale flows past.
Hand of oath
On the south, north and west sides of the tower, a stone tablet was bricked up showing a hand of an oath . This suggests that the castle had the privilege of jurisdiction . The hand of the oath on the south side was discovered during a tower renovation. The stone tablet has a height of approx. 35 cm and a width of 22 cm. Both stone tablets are registered as a special stone with registration number 428310208 in the monument register.
