history

The Gothic castle from the 14th century was probably built by the family of the Lords of Železnice, whose line was called von Pecka in the following. Budivoj von Pecka is mentioned as the first owner of the castle in 1322. In 1365 the brothers Hereš, Mutina and Jan von Pecka followed. Jarek von Železnice and Pecka, who had the rule since 1417, was able to maintain the Catholic denomination on his territory until 1432. The siege of the castle by the orphans began in August 1432 and lasted until February 1433. After a negotiated armistice, Jarek von Pecka was able to keep his goods, but had to join the orphans and allow Utraquism in his rule.

In 1475 the Lords Horšický z Horšic bought the castle and rebuilt the original castle in the south. Further renovations in the Renaissance style took place in the 16th century . In 1603 Christoph Harant von Polschitz and Weseritz acquired the Pecka rule. After his execution in 1621, his property was confiscated and sold to Albrecht von Waldstein . He gave the Pecka reign to the Carthusian monastery of Karthaus , which he founded .

In the castle there is a permanent exhibition about the life of Christoph Harant Freiherr von Polschitz und Weseritz (1564–1621), who was an important humanist, traveler, soldier and politician.
