Rychnov nad Kněžnou Castle
The Rychnov nad Kněžnou Castle (German Reichenau an der Knieschna ) is located in the town of Rychnov nad Kněžnou in the Czech Republic .
After the reign of Reichenau an der Knieschna in 1640 was acquired by Count Libštejnský von Kolowrat , Karl Libštejnský von Kolowrat built the baroque castle from 1676 to 1690. In the 18th century it was rebuilt by the architect Johann Blasius Santini-Aichl .
After the Kolowrat line of Libštejner died out, the Kolowrat inherited the property of Rychnov nad Kněžnou at Krakovec Castle . During the Second World War he came under German administration and in 1948 Count Otmar Kolowrat was expropriated. In 1992, Count Kryštof Jaroslav Kolowrat Krakowský received the property back, which includes the castle and its collections, around 5,000 hectares of forest and 875 hectares of agriculture and ponds.
Parts of the castle are now used as a picture gallery. On display are family portraits and European paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries. It also contains a library with a collection of manuscripts.
