The castle Střmen (German castle Stremen, also: Burg Stegreif or Steigreif ) is located in the Adršpach-Weckelsdorf rock town near the town of Teplice nad Metují (Weckelsdorf) in the Czech Republic .

location

The castle is located on the right side over the Anenský potok ( Annenbach ), at the lower exit of the Anenské údolí ( Annengrund ). The hiking trail from Teplice nad Metují via Střemenské Podhradí and Záboř to Janovice passes below the castle.

history

The Střmen rock castle was founded around the middle of the 13th century by the von von Rýzmburk lords , who also called themselves von Skalitz . Name factor was their coat of arms which a gold in blue shield impromptu shows ( v modrém štítě zlatý towers ). The castle was mentioned in the Maiestas Carolina . In 1362 it was still owned by the Rýzmburk Tas. A year later it belonged to the Berka von Dubá , who owned it in 1436. In 1447 it was destroyed at the behest of the Silesian cities .

There are still remains of ruins on a rock, which can be reached via a steep staircase with around 300 steps. It is located west of the Střemenské Podhradí bailey .
