history

The first houses in the village were built in 1887 by mistake about one and a half kilometers west of today's town. A man named Lowell had secured the land by speculating on the construction of the railroad. However, he had made a mistake in determining the location. Not only was "his" town in the wrong place, he also hadn't secured the land for the right place. The Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad railroad company eventually built their depot on the site of the current city, and those who had already built in the wrong place moved their buildings to the correct location. The train service started in 1888.
