Emergence

In spring 2005 the band separated from guitarist Lasse Bak, who was replaced by Martin Thim. Jakob Batten wrote the songs for the album Burn Me Wicked at home within four months and recorded demos with his computer . The songs were rehearsed a few times before recording began in November 2005 in the Zigzound studios in the Danish city of Viby . The album was produced again by Peter "Ziggy" Siegfriedsen, while Tue Madsen did the mixing . The former Mercenary singer Mikkel Sandager and Tore Morgensen can be heard as guest musicians .

The cover of the album shows a spoon full of heroin . This shows the shape of a woman. According to Jakob Batten, the album cover is a metaphor for the statement that women are like heroin.

“Women are the most dangerous of all drugs . They make you dependent and destroy your mind and soul . "

- Jakob Batten

The lyrics, written by singer Bo Summer, are about broken relationships. According to Batten, the slave in the song “Slaves” is the man who is always under pressure from his wife. The lyrics of "The Widow Black" are coined on Courtney Love . For the refrain of the song “Back to the Streets”, Jakob Batten stole a melody from the song “Incomplete” from the Backstreet Boys . "Throw Your Bolts" pays homage to the English death metal band Bolt Thrower .

In the final song "Illdispunk'd", the musicians take on themselves. The first stanza is in Danish , the second stanza in German and the third stanza in English .

reception

Wolf-Rüdiger Mühlmann from the German magazine Rock Hard described Burn Me Wicked as an “album of superlatives” that was “much bigger than all previous [genre] releases of the year” and awarded 9.5 out of ten points. Andi Althoff from the online magazine Metal1.info praised the long-term effect of the album, but criticized the fact that guest singer Mikkel Sandager can be heard too often. Althoff awarded nine out of ten points. On the other hand, the reviewer Psycho from the online magazine Vampster thought the album was " nowhere near as mature as the previous album".

Republication

In 2009 the album was re-released via Massacre Records . As a bonus, this version includes live recordings of the songs "Dark" and "Weak is Your God".
