César Bosco Vivas Robelo (born November 14, 1941 in Masaya , Nicaragua , † June 22, 2020 in Managua ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of León en Nicaragua .

Life

César Bosco Vivas Robelo studied philosophy and theology both at the Interdiocesan Seminary of Nicaragua and at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He received on May 17, 1970 through Pope Paul VI. in St. Peter's Basilica the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Managua . In 1971 he was appointed pastor in the parish of La Purísima and later vicar general of the Archdiocese of Managua.

On October 8, 1981 Pope appointed him John Paul II. To the titular of Mididi and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in Managua. The Archbishop of Managua, Miguel Obando Bravo SDB , donated him episcopal ordination on November 21 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Estelí , Rubén López Ardón , and the emeritus Bishop of León en Nicaragua, Julián Luis Barni Spotti, OFM .

On April 2, 1991, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of León en Nicaragua.

In 1989 he became secretary of the Episcopal Conference of Nicaragua (“Conferencia Episcopal de Nic”). He was President of the Bishops' Conference from 1991 to 1993, 1997 to 1999 and 2005 and from 1999 to 2002 and since 2011 its Vice-President. In 1992 he also became Secretary General of the II Provincial Council of Nicaragua. He was the initiator of the recognition of the Cathedral of León as UNESCO World Heritage .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on June 29, 2019. He probably died in June 2020 at the age of 79 as a result of the consequences of the COVID-19 disease.
