Cătălin Marian Predoiu (born August 27, 1968 in Buzău ) is a Romanian politician .

biography

After attending school at the Colegiul Național " Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu ", he studied law at the University of Bucharest between 1986 and 1991 , which he completed in 1991 with a licentiate . He then practiced as a lawyer and completed postgraduate studies in commercial law at Caen University in 1994 . After returning to Romania, he continued to work as a lawyer in Bucharest . As such, he was a member of the Council of the Bucharest Bar Association between 2003 and 2007 and then, since 2007, a member of the Permanent Commission of the Romanian Bar Association (Uniunii Naționale a Barourilor din România). At the same time he was a lecturer in commercial law at the Law Faculty of the University of Bucharest between 1994 and 2007 . During this time, he obtained a doctorate in 2004 with a dissertation on commercial law, which he completed summa cum laude .

Predoiu was appointed on February 29, 2008 as a member of the Partidul Național Liberal (PNL) as Minister of Justice in the 2nd Cabinet of Prime Minister Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu . He kept this office under his successor Emil Boc (Partidul Democrat Liberal) from December 22, 2008 and was also Minister for Civil Liberties . A party expulsion from the PNL, which went into the opposition after the change of government, he anticipated by leaving.

On October 2, 2009, he was additionally appointed acting Foreign Minister in the Boc I cabinet and was active as such until December 23, 2009. In the government formed in December 2009 , he again took over the post of Minister of Justice. After the resignation of the Romanian government in early 2012, Cătălin Predoiu was appointed Acting Prime Minister by President Traian Băsescu .

On November 4, 2019, Ludovic Orban I was again Minister of Justice in the cabinet .

In addition to his work as a lawyer and university lecturer, Predoiu was also the author of specialist articles and monographs on commercial and credit law such as:

In 2003 he was awarded the Simion Bărnuțiu Prize of the Romanian Academy (Academia Română) .
