The vehicles of type G 5.1 of the Prussian State Railways were the first freight locomotives of the type 1'C n2 in Europe. It was developed from the Prussian G 4 series. Between 1892 and 1902 a total of 268 examples of these vehicles were put into service in Prussia . The twin G 5.1 was designed to increase the speed of freight trains on main lines. In addition, stronger machines had become necessary for the increasing train loads. The locomotives, which were equipped with a compressed air brake , were also used in express freight trains and passenger transport due to their top speed of 65 km / h. The G 5.1 was equipped with an internal Allan control, the running axle was designed as an Adam axle.
In 1923, the Reichsbahn took over 169 G 5.1 as 54 001 - 168 and 54 182 in their re-designation plan for regional railway locomotives , in 1925 only 71 units were re-designated with the company numbers 54 001 - 54 071 . The locomotives were all retired by 1930.
The PKP had 28 machines under the series designation Ti1 in their portfolio. After the occupation of Poland in World War II , three G 5.1s were returned to the Reichsbahn as 54 601 - 603.
The vehicles were a Tender equipped to type pr 3 T 12th
