Cadmium sulfate is a chemical compound from the group of sulfates .

Occurrence

Cadmium sulfate occurs naturally as the tetrahydrate in the form of rare minerals Drobecit and Voudourisit ago.

Extraction and presentation

Cadmium sulfate can be obtained by reacting cadmium oxide with sulfuric acid.

properties

Cadmium sulfate decomposes above 827 ° C. It crystallizes in an orthorhombic structure with the space group Pn 2 1 m (space group no. 31, position 5) and the lattice parameters a = 4.698 Å , b = 4.719 Å and c = 6.558 Å. Template: room group / 31.5

use

Cadmium sulphate is used as a reagent for the detection of resorcinol , arsenic , sulphides and fumaric acid or for the precipitation of hydrogen sulphide (formation of cadmium sulphide ) and as an electrolyte in galvanic elements (e.g. Weston normal element ) and in the galvanic deposition of cadmium .

safety instructions

Like many cadmium compounds, cadmium sulfate is classified as carcinogenic and germ cell mutagenic. The main route of exposure is the respiratory tract, subordinate to the digestive tract and absorption through the skin.
