Call of Duty: Ghosts is a first person shooter developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision . It is the tenth part of the Call of Duty series. The game was released on November 5, 2013 for the PlayStation 3 , Xbox 360 , Wii U , Windows , and as a launch title for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One .

Compared to its predecessors, the game has new locations, a new storyline and an improved engine .

action

campaign

The story begins with Elias Walker, the protagonist's father , who tells his sons Logan (protagonist) and David "Hesh" the legend about the special unit of the Ghosts . After he has finished speaking, the three of them are disturbed by an alleged earthquake on their way home. At the same time, the ODIN space station is taken by the Federation , an association of all South American states. As a result, several major US cities are destroyed.

Ten years later, Logan, David, and their German Shepherd, Riley, are on a mission to the wall that separates the United States and Federation territory. With Riley's help, they spot an American who is helping the Federation. A short time later, the US base on which the Walkers are stationed is attacked by the Federation. The brothers search for their father and are trapped in a burning house and saved by the Ghosts. There they learn that their father is the leader of the Ghosts and that the man who helps the Federation is called Rorke and was a ghost.

Events roll over and the Ghosts are captured by Rorke and Elias is killed by Rorke. The Walker brothers then hunt down Rorke and face him in a fight in which Hesh is injured and Logan rescues him ashore. But Rorke survived and took Logan with him.

Gameplay

Multiplayer mode

In the multiplayer mode of the game there are some new game mechanics compared to its predecessors. Parts of the maps can now be destroyed or changed in multiplayer. For the first time, the player can also choose a female soldier. A total of 14 cards are included in the game. Four new cards can also be purchased from one of the four DLCs (downloadable content) that have been released.

The "Take-10" system from Black Ops 2 returns as a detailed soldier editor. More than 10 items can be equipped here. The choice of primary and secondary weapons as well as the equipment (grenades and tactical grenades) affect the number of perk objects (called perks). So the player can choose more perks if he only has a simple primary weapon in possession instead of having a primary and secondary weapon and equipment in his inventory.

Call of Duty: Ghosts has considerably more perks than its predecessors and successors. The wildcards (playing cards for advanced options in the class editor) have also been replaced by perks. Some perks are based on the weapon attachments of the predecessor.

Without equipment, the class has 12 free slots for perks, and the better a perk, the more slots it needs. These take up space from 1 to 5. For example, the perk “No fall damage” only needs one space, while “Dropouts” (permanently invisible on the card) already requires three spaces.

Extinction

Extinction is a cooperative game mode in Call of Duty: Ghosts , in which the player can compete with up to four other players. The team then has to fight back against ever stronger waves of aliens. Extinction is comparable to the survival or zombie mode from the previous Call of Duty games. To unlock the game mode, you must complete the first mission of the single player campaign on any difficulty level or reach level five in multiplayer mode. There is also a chaos mode . In this, the player continuously fights against attacking alien hordes. The goal is to survive for two minutes.

Development history

The game was released on November 5, 2013. On May 1st, a teaser trailer called Masked Warriors was published on YouTube . The game was announced for Xbox One on May 21, 2013 in parallel with the console's presentation.

prehistory

On April 24, 2013, the preliminary cover of the game appeared on the website of the British retail chain Tesco due to an internal error . Four days later, the page was back online with a description and publication date, which was taken offline the same day. On the same day, the game appeared on the website of a Spanish and Dutch online retailer. Activision did not comment.
