Camelot is a television series that was produced in 2011 and canceled after one season. With this series, the producers of the Tudors and the Borgias tried to film a modern interpretation of the legend about King Arthur . The individual episodes of the mini-series were shown free to air for the first time in Germany from March 21 to March 23, 2013 on ZDFneo .

action

Morgan le Fay returns home as a young woman to the castle of her father, King Uther Pendragon. She claims the throne to which she is entitled. But Uther, who once killed Morgan's mother and banished her to marry the beautiful Lady Igraine, denied Morgan her claim. She then poisons her father, who dies. Shortly before his last breath, Uther is able to sign a document in the presence of the magician Merlin, on which it is recorded that Uther's secret son, Arthur, is now entitled to the royal dignity. This was once given by Merlin into the care of the simple farmer Ector. Arthur grows up together with Ector's son Kay. Arthur finds it difficult to accept that he should become king. But Merlin supports him, especially in the fight against his half-sister Morgan. This mobilizes all forces to bring Arthur down. But Arthur has to pass difficult tests even in the closest circle. Above all, his love for Guinevere is put to the test because the young woman is engaged to his friend, the knight Leontes.

production

The series was filmed between June and July 2010 in County Wicklow , Ireland . The post-production as well as the visual effects were done in a Canadian studio. The first ten episodes of Camelot should have been followed by other seasons, but in 2011 the series clearly lost out to the much more successful fantasy series Game of Thrones . The production costs of seven million dollars per episode were in no relation to the falling audience numbers. That's why the series was discontinued after just one season.

Reviews

The series received mostly negative reviews. So wrote the Time Magazine , the series is exceedingly silly (German exceedingly silly ) while the "Pittsburgh Post-Gazette" magazine wrote that the series was dull and talky and its first three episodes offer few surprises in storytelling. (German The series is boring and chatty and the first three episodes offer few surprises in retelling the well-known story. )
