James "Jamie" Metcalfe Campbell Bower (born November 22, 1988 in London , England ) is a British actor and singer . His best-known roles so far are Anthony Hope in Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd and Caius in the second part of the Twilight films, New Moon - Until (s) the noon , and in the last part Breaking Dawn - Until (s) the end of the night : Part 2 , that of the young Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald as well as that of Jace Wayland in Cassandra Clare's bestselling film Chronicles of the Underworld - City of Bones .

Life

Bower's parents are Anne Elizabeth Roseberry and David Bower. He grew up in London with his younger brother Samuel and later attended Bedales School near Petersfield. During this time he was a member of the National Youth Music Theater . His professional career was inspired by his friend Laura Michelle Kelly , who recommended him to her agent.

In 2007 he and Kelly starred in Tim Burton's film Sweeney Todd . In the black and romantic, but also bizarre film adaptation of the Broadway musical Sweeney Todd by Stephen Sondheim , he played the role of the sailor Anthony at the side of the revenge-killing barber ( Johnny Depp ). Sweeney Todd was named Best Picture at the 2008 Golden Globe .

Also in 2007 he took on a role in the BBC television film production The Dinnerparty , which was followed by a brief appearance as a rocker in Guy Ritchie's film RocknRolla in 2008 , which was shown in Germany from March 2009. In the movie Oorlogswinter , released at the end of 2008 , he took on the role of Royal Air Force pilot Jack , who crashed with his Mosquito machine in the occupied Netherlands during the last winter of World War II and was able to escape with the help of 13-year-old Michiel . The film is also known under the English title Winter in Wartime and was nominated for an Oscar for best foreign language film and a Satellite Award in 2009.

In the same year the miniseries The Prisoner was broadcast on US television, a remake of the English television series of the same name from 1967. In 2010, Campbell Bower played the role of young Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 . In the Shakespeare thriller Anonymus by Roland Emmerich , he took on the role of the young Edward de Vere , the "real" author of Shakespearian works. In early June 2011 it was announced that Bower had taken on the role of Jace Wayland in the 2013 film adaptation of the bestselling Chronicles of the Underworld .

In 2018, Bower again took on the role of young Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts: Grindelwald's Crimes , the second part of the Fantastic Beasts film series .

In addition to his acting career, Campbell Bower is also the lead singer of the band Counterfeit . From 2009 to 2012 he was in a relationship with actress Bonnie Wright . From 2012 to 2013 and again in 2015, Bower was in a relationship with Lily Collins , whom he met while filming Chronicles of the Underworld - City of Bones . From the beginning of 2016 to mid-2018 he was again in a relationship with the model Matilda Lowther . He is currently in a relationship with the tattoo artist Ruby Quilter.
