Cannabis Kid (Original title: Kid Cannabis ) is an American feature film from 2014 . The film is based on the real life of Nate Norman and is inspired by an article by Mark Binellis in Rolling Stone

action

An 18-year-old high school dropout and his 27 -year-old sidekick begin smuggling marijuana from Canada across the border into the United States. Your life changes fundamentally because of the new income. The trade goes well for a while, but then the boys get blown up and go to jail.

background

Kid Cannabis premiered at the Miami International Film Festival on March 16, 2014 . The film was released in theaters in the United States on April 18, 2014. In Germany it was released directly on DVD on May 22, 2015 .

reception

According to Nick Schager of The Village Voice magazine , the film celebrates drug trafficking with glaring clichés. The obvious clichés and embarrassing portrayals in the film, according to Michael D. Reid of the Times Colonist , are made up for by the style of the director. Jordan Osterer from Slantmagazine is disappointed that the film works best when it shows the ineptitude and awkwardness of its protagonist instead of glorifying him as a stoner martyr. He agrees with Neil Genzlinger of the New York Times that the voice-over comment is annoying and distracts from the plot. The wild story sells itself, it doesn't need a narrator.
