Cannonau di Sardegna

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under the name Cannonau di Sardegna DOC , rosé and red wines as well as a fortified wine are produced on the entire Italian island of Sardinia . The wines have had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1972 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Cultivation

The grapes for the production of wines with the protected designation of origin “Cannonau” must be grown in the Sardinia region. For wines with the addition of "Classico", the grapes must be grown in the provinces of Nuoro and Ogliastra . There are three sub-zones (sottozone), which are precisely described: "Oliena", "Capo Ferrato" and "Jerzu".

generation

The wines must be made from at least 85% Cannonau grape (a local synonym for Grenache). A maximum of 15% other red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Sardinia region may be added. For wines with the addition of "Classico", at least 90% must be Cannonau.

In 2017, 78,297 hectoliters of DOC wine were produced from 2160 hectares of vineyards.
