Nasco di Cagliari

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nasco di Cagliari DOC stands for white, mostly sweet wines as well as fortified wines from the Italian island of Sardinia . The area with its dry and above all sweet white wines has enjoyed the status of a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since April 18, 1979 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014. The DOC was created to provide a marketing platform for the Nasco grape variety , which is only grown in Sardinia , as the variety threatened to disappear after the phylloxera disaster.

Cultivation

The zone includes municipalities in the provinces of Cagliari , Carbonia Iglesias , Medio Campidano and Oristano . The vineyards must not be higher than 400  m . The quantities generated are comparatively small.

generation

There are the following types of wine:

  • Nasco di Cagliari
  • Nasco di Cagliari Liquoroso
  • Nasco di Cagliari Liquoroso Riserva

The wines must be made from the Nasco grape variety . A maximum of 5% other analogous grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Sardinia region may be added. All wines can be made dry (secco) or sweet (dolce).

When Liquoroso is alcoholic fermentation by the addition of alcohol stopped. The fortified variants Liquoroso and Liquoroso "Riserva" have 17.5 % alcohol by volume . A Liquoroso with two years of maturation, of which at least 1 year in wooden barrels, can be called "Riserva". Good variants are reminiscent of a port wine of the Tawny variant.
