Vermentino di Sardegna

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Vermentino di Sardegna DOC is the white wine with the largest cultivation area in the Italian region of Sardinia . Since February 23, 1988, the wines have had the status of a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC), which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Cultivation

The zone of approved vineyards covers the entire island, but most of it is produced in the north in the provinces of Oristano and Sassari .

In 2017, 106,814 hectoliters of DOC wine were produced from 1271 hectares of vineyards.

generation

In addition to the still wine Vermentino di Sardegna , a Vermentino di Sardegna Spumante and a Vermentino di Sardegna Frizzante are produced. The still wines and the Frizzante are aged dry to sweet . The sparkling wine can be naturally dry to semi-dry. The denomination stipulates that at least 85% of the Vermentino grape variety must be included. A maximum of 15% other white grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Sardinia region may be added.

In particular, the dry wines of the DOC can compete with the better-known wines of the DOCG denomination Vermentino di Gallura .
