Vermentino di Gallura

Named Vermentino di Gallura DOCG are white wines from the Gallura said part of the north of the Italian island of Sardinia called. Since September 11, 1996, the regional appellation has had the status of a “controlled and guaranteed designation of origin ”, or DOCG for short .

Cultivation

The zone of the total of 1241 hectares of approved vineyards includes the region known as Gallura (21 municipalities) within the provinces of Sassari and Nuoro . The vineyards are spread over the communities of Aggius , Aglientu , Arzachena , Badesi , Berchidda , Bortigiadas , Budoni , Calangianus , Golfo Aranci , Loiri Porto San Paolo , Luogosanto , Luras , Monti , Olbia , Oschiri , Palau , located near the Costa Smeralda , Sant'Antonio di Gallura , San Teodoro , Santa Teresa di Gallura , Telti , Tempio Pausania , Trinità d'Agultu in the province of Olbia-Tempio and Viddalba in the province of Sassari .

The wines are made dry (also as sparkling wine ). There are also wines with the names Vermentino di Gallura vendemmia tardiva (late harvest) and Vermentino di Gallura Passito .

In 2017, a total of 31,118 hectoliters of DOCG wine were produced.

The wines are made from the Vermentino grape variety (95–100%) and, if necessary, blended with other white varieties (up to a maximum of 5%) approved in the Sardinia region.

Vermentino di Gallura is one of the DOCG areas with the highest hectare yields. Up to 70 hectoliters / hectare (10,000 kg of vine material with a maximum pouring of 70 percent) are permitted. Correspondingly, it can be seen in some wines that the yield has not been reduced. In particular, the dry wines of the DOC Vermentino di Sardegna can compete with the better-known wines of the DOCG zone Vermentino di Gallura.
