Caren Denner (born May 21, 1962 in Birkenfeld ) is a German lawyer and police chief in Karlsruhe . Since the police reform in 2014, she is the first woman in this top office in Baden-Württemberg .

Caren Denner was born on May 21, 1962 in Birkenfeld im Enzkreis . From 1981 to 1990 she studied law in Mannheim and Freiburg im Breisgau . In 1990 she began her professional career as a consultant at the Karlsruhe regional council and in 1992 moved to the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior as a consultant .

From 2002 Denner worked in the Stuttgart regional council as deputy head of the public security department and head of the administration / state police department and was appointed head of the police law department and deputy head of department 6 / state police department in 2005.

After her return to the Karlsruhe regional council in 2009, she headed the departments of traffic (from 2009), asylum law (from 2010) and expulsions (from 2011). In 2011, she became police chief in Mannheim , but was demoted to deputy to the newly appointed police chief Thomas Köber as part of the police structural reform in 2014 , as only police officers were allowed to hold this office according to the new regulations in force at the time .

After the departure of her predecessor Günther Freisleben in December 2017, Denner was appointed the new head of the Karlsruhe Police Headquarters , the largest police headquarters in Baden-Württemberg, in 2018 following a cabinet decision. She is the only woman who heads one of the twelve police headquarters in Baden-Württemberg. Denner officially took up office at her place of residence in Karlsruhe on July 1, 2018. She is in charge of 2,800 employees who are responsible for the safety of around 1.2 million people. On the occasion of her appointment, the Baden-Württemberg Minister of the Interior, Thomas Strobl , said:
