Albert Merz from Quirnheim
Karl Albert Heinrich Johann Nepomuk von Merz , also Carl Albert Heinrich Johann Nepomuk von Merz Herr auf und zu Quirnheim and Bosweiler , called Freyherr von Merz zu Quirnheim at the Imperial Court of Justice in 1805 , accepted into the Bavarian army as Karl Albert Baron von Merz , died as Albert Ritter von Merz auf Quirnheim (born September 29, 1774 in Quirnheim , † November 18, 1857 in Nuremberg ) was major general in the Royal Bavarian Army .
Life
Albert von Merz joined the army of the Electorate of Bavaria after fleeing his French-occupied homeland . He was promoted to major on April 28, 1808 and to lieutenant colonel on November 8, 1812 , at the same time he was transferred from the 7th Line Infantry Regiment Löwenstein-Werthheim to the 2nd Light Infantry Battalion as battalion commander, where he soon found himself brave and worthy boss proved. From June 23, 1815 he took over the position of commander of the Royal Bavarian 12th Infantry Regiment for 15 years until December 1, 1830 with the rank of colonel . After that, von Merz was commander of the Royal Bavarian 5th Infantry Regiment "Arch Grand Duke of Hesse" for five years , after which he was promoted to major general on September 10, 1835 . Until his retirement on December 15, 1843, he was still in command of the city of Passau and the fortress Oberhaus .
In 1805, together with his brother, he led a lawsuit for the compensation of the allod, which was expropriated in addition to the fief during the French occupation. Later proceedings in the Kingdom of Bavaria resulted neither in compensation nor in the re-granting of the barony as a title.

Karl Albert von Merz was born from the marriage between Karl Joseph Freiherr Merz, Lord of Quirnheim and Bosweiler (born February 16, 1747 in Quirnheim / Kurpfalz ; † February 9, 1802 in Quirnheim / France ) and Maria Josepha Susanna Komtess von Lasser (* 1746 born in Mainz; † 1777 in Quirnheim).
On July 29, 1798, his first marriage was Antoinette Therese Freiin von Brandenstein († August 9, 1808 in Ingolstadt ), and the marriage resulted in three daughters:

- Therese Karoline Franziska (born December 9, 1800 - † December 26, 1878 in Würzburg )
- Adelheid Friederike (born April 13, 1804 - † April 6, 1879 in Munich )
On July 12, 1810, he married Sophie Freiin von Pechmann († March 20, 1838 in Munich) for the second time , and the connection resulted in a son:
- Eugen Joseph (born September 19, 1810; †?)
During the French rule over the areas on the left bank of the Rhine as a result of the French Revolution , Karl Albert fled with some of his relatives to Franconia and Bavaria , while his brother Georg Karl Heinrich (born January 5, 1776 in Quirnheim; †?) With his family and father stayed in Quirnheim.
