Carl Bottcher

Carl Böttcher , also Karl Hermann Böttcher , (* December 20, 1838 in Preußisch Eylau , East Prussia ; † June 10, 1900 in Königsberg i. Pr. ) Was a German teacher and specialist author.

Life

Carl Böttcher was born as the son of the tax inspector Karl Julius Böttcher and Heinriette Engelbrecht. He attended the city school in Bartenstein and from 1853 the Collegium Fridericianum in Königsberg, where he received his school-leaving certificate in 1859. He had previously worked as a tutor . In the winter semester of 1859/60 he enrolled at the Albertus University for Protestant theology and philology . He became a member of the Corps Masovia . 1861 switched to history , geography and modern languages . As a student he also worked as a tutor in 1862/63. He completed his studies on September 29, 1866, after becoming a Dr. phil. had received a doctorate . Then Böttcher was a teacher at the Royal High School in Graudenz ( Pomerania ) until 1870 . When Altona came to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1871 , teachers who were familiar with the Prussian school system were needed here. Therefore, Böttcher switched to Altona as a teacher at the municipal secondary school. There he was promoted to senior teacher in 1873 . In 1874 he became director of the Evangelical Reformed School in Hamburg . From 1878 to 1882 he was director of the Realgymnasium in Düsseldorf (see also Humboldt-Gymnasium ), which had been Prussian since 1815. In 1883 he returned to East Prussia as director of the Burgschule (Königsberg) .

Masovia's circle of honor

From 1883 to 1892 he sat on the trust committee of his corps. At his suggestion, the Silver Circle of Honor was introduced in the winter semester of 1888/89 for one hundred semesters belonging to the Corps. Böttcher was married to Emilie geb. Simpson, with whom he had two daughters and a son. The son died as an officer in 1917 from a war wound in the First World War.
