Carl August Christian Friedrich Erxleben (born November 10, 1814 in Lauenburg / Elbe , † June 7, 1884 in Hanover ) was a German administrative lawyer and ministerial official . From 1862 to 1865 he was Minister of Finance in the Kingdom of Hanover . In 1867 he was elected to the constituent Reichstag of the North German Confederation . In the Reichstag election in 1871 , he entered the Reichstag (German Empire) .

Life

Erxleben attended grammar school in Lüneburg . He studied law at the Georg-August University in Göttingen and the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin . Then he entered the civil service. Erxleben became a laborer in the Ministry of Finance of the Kingdom of Hanover in 1842. Between 1848 and 1854 he was a lecturer in the Ministry of Finance. In 1851 he was appointed Finance Councilor. Since 1854 he was senior customs officer in the senior customs council. In the fourth ministry under Georg V , Erxleben became finance minister on December 9, 1862. He was one of four liberal members of the government. The General German Commercial Code was introduced during his term of office . Because the introduction of a more democratic suffrage was delayed, he resigned in September 1865.

After the annexation of Hanover, he belonged to the Reichstag of the North German Confederation from 1867 and to the Prussian House of Representatives in 1867 and 1868 . From 1871 to 1874 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the German-Hanover party . He did not belong to a political group.
