Carl Gotthold Claunigk

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carl Gotthold Claunigk (also Klaunigk ; born May 17, 1761 in Sonnewalde , Niederlausitz , Electorate of Saxony ; † July 5, 1829 in Sonnewalde, Kingdom of Prussia ) was one of the most important organ builders in Niederlausitz.

Life

Carl Gotthold Claunigk's father, Matthäus Claunigk, was an organ builder in Sonnewalde. The son took over his workshop around 1781 and worked there as a sexton for many years.

Divided registers are characteristic of his organs , which enable a greater variety of sounds on the small organs.

Organs (selection)

Only one-manual works by Carl Gotthold Claunigk are known. The organs in Waltersdorf , Gießmannsdorf , Groß Mehßow and Grüntal , as well as brochures and individual parts of other instruments have been preserved.
