Carl Gottlieb Hering (born October 25, 1766 in Schandau , Electorate of Saxony ; † January 4, 1853 in Zittau , Kingdom of Saxony ) was a German music teacher , organist and composer , who was primarily known for setting the nursery rhymes Hopp, hopp, hopp, Pferdchen , run gallop and morning children's is what give and the coffee-canon ( Caffee ) has become known. He is considered the founder of German music didactics .

Life

Hering studied theology , education , philology and philosophy in Leipzig from 1788 to 1791 . Then he was tutor to the Krug family from Nidda zu Gatterstädt near Querfurt until 1794 . From 1795 to 1811 he worked as a teacher and later vice principal at the Latin School of Oschatz . During that time he received a master's degree in philosophy in 1796 and received musical training from Johann Gottfriedschicht . Hering also worked as an employee of the weekly magazine Oschatzer Erzähler for the citizen and farmer . From 1802 to 1811 he was organist at St. Aegidien Church (Oschatz) . From 1811 to 1836 he was a teacher and senior teacher, from 1813 rector at the school in Zittau. He was a member of the Zittau Freemason Lodge Friedrichs August to the three circles .

With his first wife Christiane Friderike, geb. Kreuzberg (1777-1817), he had 13 children. These included the founder of homeopathy in America Constantin Hering , the composer Carl Eduard Hering , the writer Ewald Hering (pseudonym Ewald ) and the philologist Julius Robert Hering (1805–1828).

In the death register of Zittau from 1853 is noted under No. 8:

“Died January 4th, at 1/2 o'clock in the morning, buried January 7th, medium, zlFr., Very quiet, Mr. M. Carl Gottlieb Hering, senior teacher emeritus at the local city school and at the seminary, a widower, age: 86 years , Cause: old age, leaves three sons and two daughters as a widower, of age ”.
