Hans (Otto) Carl Gottlob von Egidy (born October 28, 1756 on the manor Sachsendorf near Wurzen ; † October 13, 1814 in Gera ) was an Electoral Saxon officer as well as a princely Russian march commissioner and city ​​governor of Gera.

Origin and family

Carl Gottlob von Egidy came from the noble family von Egidy . He was the son of the heir, feudal lord and court lord of Sachsendorf near Wurzen and an Electoral Saxon officer, Otto Gottlob von Egidy (1718–1788) and his Johanna Christiane nee. von Döring (1727–1788), daughter of the royal Polish and Electoral Saxon Rittmeister Johann Christoph von Döring auf Sachsendorff and Wäldgen and his wife Friederike Magdalene born. from Karras .

Von Egidy joined the Saxon Cadet Corps in Dresden in 1771 at the age of 16 , like five other family members before him and another 25 after him. There he was prepared for military service in the Electoral Saxon Army , where he served for several years as an officer in the first lieutenant's rank , as a sous-lieutenant in the regiment of Le Coq .

After the great fire of 1780, which destroyed a large part of the historic old town of Gera, von Egidy went to the royal Russian court of the younger line there, where he was appointed city governor of Gera. Egidy's passion for hiking has been handed down. So he climbed the Brocken on August 21, 1788, together with the forest master from Landwüst and Johann Carl Christian König from Braunschweig , where he was immortalized in the Brocken book.
