Carl Heinrich Ernst Art Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Carl Heinrich Ernst Art Prize was founded in 1951 by the Winterthur entrepreneur Carl Heinrich Ernst , the founder of the former Schneeberg drugstore. Since then, it has been awarded annually by the Carl Heinrich Ernst Art Foundation, alternating between literature, visual arts and music, to cultural workers who are eligible for support and who are involved in Winterthur's cultural life. When the award is made in the “Fine Art” category, a work by the artist is purchased. The prize is endowed with CHF 10,000 and was awarded in the past at suitable locations in Winterthur. a. in the Theater am Gleis , in the Kunstmuseum Winterthur and in the Winterthur Conservatory. The foundation's inviolable assets amount to CHF 500,000, and if the resulting income is not enough for a prize to be awarded, the award is not made - this was most recently the case in 2009.
