Engeler publishing house

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Engeler publisher is a literary publishing house based in the Swiss Schupfart , Kanton Aargau . Earlier publishing houses were Holderbank SO and Solothurn . From 1997 to 2009 the predecessor publisher Urs Engeler Editor existed with offices in Basel (Switzerland) and Weil am Rhein (Germany). The publisher Urs Engeler also runs the two labels roughbooks and Das Versteck at Engeler Verlag .

History and conception

The focus of the publishing program is on lyric and poetics as well as on literary theoretical and philosophical treatises. The founder Urs Engeler (* 1962) studied comparative literature with Hans-Jost Frey at the University of Zurich.

From 1992 to 2011 Urs Engeler published the “Zeitschrift für Poesie und seine Poetik” between the lines . This formed the basis for the foundation of the Urs Engeler Editor publishing house . From 1995 to 2009 Urs Engeler Editor published more than 60 authors from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, the USA and Italy. [1]

As a result of the subprime crisis, the Swiss publisher Urs Engeler discontinued his poetry edition “Urs Engeler Editor” in 2009. A year later he presented "roughbooks", a format that was new at the time and has become common today, which worked beyond the book trade and sponsorship: poetry with small editions in digital printing and direct sales via the website. The strictly serial books appear "like unshaven guests at a glamorous cocktail party, rebellious, fearless and therefore extremely interesting" (Der Freitag). Commercially more successful prose titles will continue to be offered to the book trade through the newly founded Engeler Verlag . The successor to the magazine Between Lines is the magazine Mütze.
