Carl Heinrich Schultz , also Karl , (born June 30, 1805 in Zweibrücken , † December 17, 1867 in Deidesheim ), named Schultz Bipontinus through latinization of his place of birth (Zweibrücken = Bipons) , was a German doctor and botanist . Life

His older brother Friedrich Wilhelm Schultz (1804–1876) was also a botanist. In 1840 Carl Heinrich Schultz, then a doctor at the Deidesheimer Spital , gathered 25 scholars from the Palatinate and surrounding areas to found an association; on October 6, 1840, POLLICHIA was founded, initially a purely scientific society. This was named after the Kaiserslautern doctor and botanist Johann Adam Pollich (1740–1780). Since an amendment to the statutes in 1976, the association has been called “POLLICHIA Verein für Naturforschung und Landespflege e. V. ".

Schultz was a member of many fraternities : fraternity Germania im Schwan Erlangen (1825), fraternity Amicitia Munich (1826), old fraternity Arminia Munich (1827), fraternity Marcomannia Munich (1828) and fraternity Germania Munich (1829, founder).

Honors

In 1843 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .

According to the epitaph, Schultz was a knight of the 1st class of the Bavarian Order of St. Michael .

According to him, the plant genera Bipontia S.F.Blake from the sunflower family (Asteraceae) and Bipontinia Alef. named from the legume family (Fabaceae).
