Carl Julius Blumenhagen

Carl Heinrich Ernst Julius Blumenhagen (born March 28, 1789 in Göttingen , † January 16, 1870 in Hann. Münden ) was a German poet lawyer .

Life

Blumenhagen was the son of a finance secretary in Hanover. His brother was the writer Wilhelm Blumenhagen . He began his law studies at the University of Göttingen in the fall of 1810 and joined the Corps Hannovera . In the war of liberation against Napoleon in 1813 he took part in the hunters of General Carl von Beaulieu-Marconnay from Hanover , a unit of the light infantry.

After completing his studies, he was accepted into the Hanoverian civil service as an official assessor in Reinhausen in 1818 and in Herzberg am Harz in 1824 . In 1840 he became a bailiff in Münden , where he last worked in the office of a government councilor until his retirement in 1865.

He also found recognition outside of his official work. As a writer and poet, he was very well received in his day. In addition to the publication of his own writings, he wrote numerous poems on important occasions and official festivities in Hanover. During the Wars of Liberation in 1813 he wrote the “Jägerlied” , which he dedicated to his lieutenant colonel Carl von Beaulieu-Marconnay. He wrote the poems to celebrate the presence of Georg IV of Hanover and the centenary of the Georg-August University in Göttingen. The University awarded him for his contribution and achievements in this area already in 1821 the honorary doctorate of Dr. phil hc Blumenhagen was the commander of the Guelph Order and was made an honorary citizen by the city of Hannoversch Münden .

His son-in-law and brother in the corps, Gustav Scharlach , a consemester and lifelong friend of Otto von Bismarck from their time in Göttingen, also became governor in Hannoversch Münden.
