His mother, Hanna Caroline (née Blyth), therefore moved in with the children Christiania. Between the ages of 13 and 14, Lorck was in Fredriksvern. In 1851 he took drawing lessons with Johan Fredrik Eckersberg in Christiania and in 1852 began studying painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . Karl Ferdinand's son was there until 1854 ,Heinrich Mücke and Rudolf Wiegmann his teachers. He also took private lessons from his compatriot Adolph Tidemand and from the German genre painter Wilhelm Sohn . In Düsseldorf , where he lived until around 1880 - interrupted by stays in Norway - he was a member of the artists' association Malkasten from 1853 to 1859 . Lorck undertook a number of study trips up to around 1880, particularly to the Netherlands .

He was based on the style of Rudolph Jordan and Henry Ritter and created genre scenes and portraits with motifs of the coast and the sea. Since 1895 he was married to Anna Gjerthe (nee Meyer, * 1831), a daughter of Jean E. Meyer, the manager of the shipyard in Fredriksvern.
