Carl Söhn

Carl (Karl) Wilhelm Söhn (born May 14, 1853 in Barmen , Rhine Province , † November 27, 1925 in Munich ) was a German portrait and genre painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Söhn grew up in Barmen and studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1870 to 1876 . There were Wilhelm Rossmann , Andreas and Karl Mueller , Heinrich Lauenstein , Wilhelm Lotz and Eduard von Gebhardt his teachers. He was also a student of Wilhelm Sohn . He first settled in Düsseldorf , where he belonged to the artists' association Malkasten . He later moved to Munich , where his son Richard was born in 1887 . He was a member of the Munich Artists' Cooperative and distinguished himself as a poet and stage designer at Munich artist festivals between 1900 and 1920.

His great-granddaughter is the ballet teacher and author Korinna Söhn .
