Carl Suchy (born December 23, 1796 in Prague , Altstadt 773 (baptized December 24, 1796 Parish of the Holy Spirit); † February 21, 1866 Prague, Neustadt, Obstgasse 771) was made up of Franz Lehner, a clockmaker known as a maker of barrel clocks the Egerland , trained as a master in the craft. After the on 15 November 1812 charter was, he kept during his years of travel for seven years Munich and other cities in Bavaria, and temporarily in Prague as an assistant on. The twenty-six-year-old set up a small business with his own resources after his wandering period. On September 3, 1821, as a master watchmaker, he married Josephine Kroupa (approx. 1802–1866), also from Prague. The marriage has four sons.

Suchy was successful, expanding his business in 1838 and employing 35 assistants. At the same time as the barrel clocks, he also began to manufacture pendulum clocks . Suchy was known for his conscientiousness and severity. Every work completed by an assistant had to be presented to him for examination and only then received the company stamp.

In recognition of his work, Suchy received the title of kk landesbef. Watch manufacturers, and soon afterwards the award of the title of kuk court supplier . He was also honored at exhibitions.

Suchy was not only successful in a technical direction, but also commercially. He found customers especially at the annual Leipzig trade fair and, on the other hand, acquired the Parisian Sturuhr watches , which are coveted in the trade .

Suchy chose his trade as a profession for his four sons Carl, Hans, Johann Anton and Emanuel. He won the famous Bohemian watchmaker Josef Kosek as a teacher.

In 1845, after completing their apprenticeship, the two eldest sons began their years of traveling in Switzerland, where they sought out the best watchmakers. After their return in 1849, they entered their father's business, which was renamed "Carl Suchy & Sons". The eldest son Carl Suchy jun. soon migrated back to Switzerland and settled there. In 1853 he founded a factory for pocket watches in La Chaux-de-Fonds , which developed well after a short time and not only supplied the regular pocket watch business, but also found sales in England . The second son, Hans, founded a branch in 1863 at Rotenturmstrasse 6 in Vienna. All three stores operated under the name "Carl Suchy & Sons".

Carl Suchy Sr. died in 1866 at the age of 70. After his death, the youngest son, Emanuel Suchy, joined the Prague business after the third son, Johann Anton, had previously worked there. As the owner of the shop in Prague, Johann Anton received the title of imperial purveyor to the court.

All four sons of Carl Suchy died before 1898. Although the Prague store still operated under the same company name and had a good reputation, it was no longer owned by the family. As the owner of Carl Suchy & Sons in Prague, Adolph Červinka was appointed supplier to the Imperial and Royal Court. The Viennese branch at Rotenturmstrasse 6 was still owned by the family. After Hans Suchy's death, his widow Therese took over the business. Her son Alfred Suchy stood by as the manager.

Customers included not only the middle class, but also the high aristocracy and the imperial court.

Carl Suchy & Sons watches of all kinds are now sold at auctions and fetch high prices.

In 2017 the company was revived and, in reference to the founding year 1822, a strictly limited edition of the "Waltz N ° 1" was released in cooperation with Vaucher Fleurier Manufacture. The clocks are built by master watchmaker Marc Jenni in Lausanne ( Switzerland ).
