Carlo Oriani (born November 5, 1888 in Cinisello Balsamo , † December 3, 1917 in Caserta ) was an Italian cyclist .

Carlo Oriani, known as El Pucia because of his preference for yeast bread ( puccia ) , was a professional cyclist from 1908 to 1915. At the first edition of the Giro d'Italia in 1909, he was fifth overall. In 1912 he decided the Giro di Lombardia for himself and the Giro d'Italia the following year . Carlo Oriani died as a bersagliere in World War I of pneumonia . He is said to have contracted this after jumping into an ice-cold river to rescue a comrade.
