Carlos Saboga
Carlos Alberto Mendes Saboga (born December 17, 1936 in Figueira da Foz ) is a Portuguese screenwriter and film critic . He lives in France .
Life
Saboga was born and raised in the seaside resort of Figueira da Foz . In the 1960s he left Portugal and its authoritarian Salazar dictatorship and went into exile in France. After further stays in Italy and Algeria, he finally settled in Paris.
He became a journalist and film critic for newspapers, radio and television. Especially his writing activities brought him closer to writing scripts. Saboga made his first work on scripts in Italy at the end of the 1960s, including with Giuseppe Ferrara for his film Il sasso in bocca (1969). However, his name has mostly not yet been mentioned in the respective credits. For the first time, a separate screenplay Sabogas was filmed in 1984 by the Portuguese director António-Pedro Vasconcelos . The crime film O Lugar do Morto (Eng: The Place of the Dead) was a huge hit at the box office and received critical acclaim. The film broke all audience records and is considered a historic box-office hit in the recent history of Portuguese cinema , bringing home cinema back to the general public in the country after the Carnation Revolution . Since then, Saboga's screenplays have been filmed by French and Portuguese cinemas, and they have been the basis for television productions, both films and series, in both countries.
Saboga gained further notoriety through his scripts for Raúl Ruiz 's projects The Secrets of Lisbon (2010, cinema and TV multi-part) and Lines of Wellington - Storm over Portugal (2012, cinema and TV multi-part, after Ruiz's death in 2011 by his widow Valeria Sarmiento shot).
On April 6, 2013, Saboga's first directorial work had its cinema premiere. Photo was in the presence Sabogas, actress Marisa Paredes and producer Paulo Branco at the 23rd International Film Festival of Beauvais , the Festival du Film Région d'Europe de Beauvais presented to the public. The film has previously been shown in competition at various festivals, including the Rome Film Festival .
