Anton Nokk

Anton Nokk (born October 27, 1797 in Schwarzendorf , † August 22, 1869 in Karlsruhe ) was a German teacher and politician . He was a member of the Second Chamber of the Baden Estates Assembly .

Nokk was born the son of a farmer and judge and after attending grammar school in 1815 studied philosophy , philology , history and mathematics in Freiburg and Heidelberg . During his studies in 1818 he became a member of the old Freiburg fraternity . After graduating, he worked from 1821 as a teacher at the grammar school in Bruchsal , whose director he became in 1838. In his 46-year teaching career, he mainly taught mathematics. At the insistence of his federal brother and friend Johann Baptist Bekk , he became a member of the Second Chamber of the Baden Estates Assembly in Karlsruhe. In 1848 he became director of the Lyceum in Freiburg. In 1849 he was able to free the students and schoolchildren imprisoned after the Baden Revolution from captivity in the Rastatt casemates . Because of his services to the study of Greek mathematics, he was awarded Dr. phil. hc from the University of Freiburg . He was a privy councilor .

Nokk was married to Margareta Schmidt, a Bruchsaler. His sons were Wilhelm Nokk and Rudolf Nokk .
