Carmen Maria Cârneci
Carmen Maria Cârneci (born September 19, 1957 in Racila , Bacău County ) is a Romanian composer and conductor .
Cârneci studied composition at the Bucharest Conservatory with Dan Constantinescu and then worked as a conductor with various Romanian orchestras. In 1985 she came to Germany on a DAAD scholarship , where she continued her studies in composition and conducting with Klaus Huber and Francis Travis . Then she attended master classes a. a. with Kurt Masur in Weimar , Pierre Boulez in Avignon and Péter Eötvös in Szombathely .
She worked as assistant to Michael Gielen at the Donaueschinger Musiktage and led the opera Perseo e Andromeda by Salvatore Sciarrino at the State Opera in Stuttgart , which she then conducted at La Scala in Milan - as the first female conductor in Scala history; In 1993 she performed Salvatore Sciarrinos Lohengrin at the Bonn Opera. 1994–95 she wrote her own chamber opera Giacometti , the premiere of which she directed at the Bonn Opera / New Theater for Music in 1996; a revised version was performed in 2001 in Zurich. She also composed two works for solo voices / chamber choir and ensemble / orchestra based on Solomo's texts ( Das Hohelied , 1995 and Der Garten , 1998), a cello concerto ( REm , 1996, 2nd version: REm-embER , 1997) Clarinet concerto ( OMENS. Grasses, steps. , 2002), a concerto for flute and flute orchestra ( OMENS.Akyn , 2007) and numerous chamber music works (such as TROJTZA , -embER, the silence, me , the GIACOMETTI scenes , Mouthpiece - de Sancta Maria based on texts by Hildegard von Bingen , the OMENS cycle and others).
Cârneci taught composition as a visiting professor at the University of Music in Bucharest and performed as a conductor at various festivals in Bucharest, Saarbrücken, Cologne, Dresden, Berlin, Zurich, London, etc. Her compositions have been published by RICORDI - Munich, FURORE-Edition Kassel and Editura Muzicala Bucharest. She lives as a freelance composer and conductor in Bucharest - where she founded the devotioModerna ensemble in 2005 - and in Freiburg im Breisgau , where she also conducts the Ensemble Perfectio Initiative Freiburg on projects .
