Carmen Cervera (eigtl. María del Carmen Rosario Soledad Cervera Fernández ), also called Tita Cervera , Baroness von Thyssen-Bornemisza and Baroness Thyssen-Bornemisza (* 23. April 1943 in Sitges as Cervera Fernández), is a Spanish art collector who previously served as Model and film actress became known.
Life
The daughter of a Catalan father and a Navarres mother, who divorced five years after her birth, attended private schools in Barcelona and London as well as in Switzerland . In England she had an affair with the French rock singer Johnny Hallyday . Sponsored by her mother, she won Miss España in 1961 after becoming Miss Cataluña , and began a career as a model after the La Vanguardia newspaper published a high -profile interview with her. She then took part in the contest for the Miss Universe election in Hollywood , where she met Dean Martin , Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe . In 1962 she met Lex Barker on a flight to Switzerland, whom she married on May 6, 1965. Between 1966 and 1982 she appeared as an actress in seven films , also as Tita Barker . She is said to have had an affair with Al Pacino in the 1970s. In 1985 she married the Swiss art collector and industrialist Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza de Kászon from the Thyssen family of entrepreneurs . She had a major influence on the fact that his important art collection was ultimately moved from the private Villa Favorita in Lugano to Madrid ( Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza ).
She made a few minor film appearances in the 1980s and 1990s. On October 1, 2008, she received a star on the Paseo de la Fama in Puerto Banús , the Spanish Walk of Fame . In addition to her dazzling private life and her role in the international jet set , which continues to attract attention in the tabloids , she has made a name for herself as an art collector.
Engagement in the art scene
Through her third husband, Baron Thyssen , whose fifth wife she was, Carmen came into contact with the international art scene. Thanks to their commitment, there was the first exhibition of works of art from the Thyssen-Bornemisza collection in the Biblioteca Nacional de España in Madrid in 1986 and a retrospective in the Academia de San Fernando the following year . Under their influence, Thyssen finally decided to relocate all of his art holdings to Spain, although British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher had also made intensive efforts to locate the collection in London. The Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza was opened in Madrid in 1992, and Thyssen finally sold most of its art holdings to the Spanish state. Inheritance disputes between Carmen and Thyssen's children from previous marriages resulted in a lengthy and costly process in the Bermuda Islands , which only ended shortly before her husband's death in 2002 through a settlement.
In 2006, she publicly criticized what she saw as the environmentally unfriendly conversion plans of the Madrid government for the Paseo del Prado , although the new design would also have benefited the Thyssen Museum. Finally, an amicable agreement was reached here too. Carmen Cervera has put together a collection herself: the Colección Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza , which can also be seen publicly in Madrid, but so far as a loan . It encompasses paintings from the 17th century to modern times , with a focus on 19th century Spanish painting, especially costumbrismo . Parts of the collection of Spanish paintings have been on view in the Museo Carmen Thyssen since 2011 . In addition, the collector has been showing works from her collection in the Espai Carmen Thyssen in the monastery of Sant Feliu de Guíxols since 2012 . The Carmen Thyssen Andorra Museum has also been in existence since 2017, and there are also temporary exhibitions.
Tax evasion
Since Spain levies a wealth tax on works of art, Cervera would have to pay around 13.5 million euros in taxes annually, according to a report in the newspaper "El Confidential". Documents of the offshore leak published in April 2013 are said to show that Cervera is evading this wealth tax through the company Nautilus Trustees Limited in the Cook Islands , whose owner it is supposed to be according to the report of "El Confidential".
Marriages and offspring
Carmen Cervera was married three times:
- 1965 ∞ Lex Barker († 1973).
- 1975 ∞ Espartaco Santoni (canceled due to bigamy of the husband)
- 1985 ∞ Hans Heinrich von Thyssen († 2002)
In 1980 their only real son Borja was born. His biological father is unknown, and von Thyssen later adopted him. In 2007 she adopted two twin sisters from the United States .
