Cas Mudde 2018

Cas Mudde (born June 3, 1967 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch political scientist . His research interests are extremism and populism .

Life

Mudde studied political science (Master of Arts) at the University of Leiden . After receiving his doctorate in 1998, he taught at the Central European University in Budapest and the University of Edinburgh . In 2002 he moved to the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences at the University of Antwerp . He is currently Assistant Professor in the Department of International Affairs at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia and Visiting Professor at the University of Antwerp. He researches u. a. in the fields of comparative politics , democracy , extremism , Islamophobia , social movements and political parties .

Mudde was visiting scholar at numerous US universities a. a. 2006 Fulbright European Union Scholar-in-Residence at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey (2006), 2007 Willy Brandt Guest Professor at the Malmö Institute for Studies of Migration, Diversity and Welfare (MIM) in Sweden, 2008/09 visiting professor from the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon, 2009/10 Visiting Fellow at the Kellogg Institute for International Studies at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, 2010/11 Nancy Schaenen Visiting Scholar at the Janet Prindle Institute for Ethics and Hampton and 2011 / 12 Esther Boswell Distinguished University Professor of Political Science at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.

Mudde regularly advises national and international organizations such as the European Parliament and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office . In addition to articles in newspapers (including The Guardian and Washington Post ) and specialist journals (including Party Politics , From Politics and Contemporary History and Current History ), he has published several academic books on extremism and populism in Europe. He is also a co-founder of the ECPR Standing Group on Extremism & Democracy and a board member of the IPSA Committee on Concepts and Methods. Mudde is also on several editorial boards of academic journals.

His brother Tim Mudde is a former singer in the right-wing rock band Brigade M and is active as a right-wing extremist in many ways .
