Caspar Jenny

Caspar Jenny (born June 14, 1812 in Ennenda ; † February 29, 1860 there ) was a Swiss politician , trader and judge . From 1848 to 1859 he was a member of the National Council.

biography

The son of a textile merchant graduated from the canton school in Chur , then a private institute in Neuchâtel . Professionally he worked as a merchant, from 1839 to 1842 as an appellant . Jenny belonged starting from 1842 the district administration to, as of 1845, he served as mayor of Ennenda. As a delegate from the Canton of Glarus , he was one of the staunch opponents of the Sonderbund and supported the federal state. In 1847, as President of the Central Committee, he was significantly involved in the organization of the Federal Rifle Festival in Glarus .

1848 followed Jenny's choice in the Glarus cantonal government , where he remained until 1857 the office of Landamman then that held and the state governor. Also in 1848 he was a member of the commission for the revision of the federal treaty, which ultimately created the first federal constitution . Jenny ran in the parliamentary elections in 1848 and was elected to the first Glarus National Council. In parliament he belonged to the liberal parliamentary group and, until his resignation eleven years later, campaigned for the unification of customs. He held his other political offices in the canton of Glarus until his death.
