Catumbela is a city in Angola . It is located between the port city of Lobito and the provincial capital Benguela on the Rio Catumbela , whose name it bears. The city is about 10 km from Lobito and 20 km from Benguela.
history
The Forte de São Pedro fortress, which was probably built at the end of the 18th century, enabled the Portuguese colonial administration to assert itself permanently in the wider Benguela region. The partially poorly preserved building is now being restored and is to house a historical museum.
Catumbela was a community (Comuna) in Lobito County before it became the seat of its own county on October 5, 2011.

In addition, the district has 26 primary and secondary schools.

Catumbela is on the railway line of the historic Benguela Railway .
The international airport Catumbela , which offers an alternative to the city airport Luanda and which is operated by the Empresa Nacional de Aeroportos e Navegação Aérea (ENANA), has existed since August 27, 2012 . The runway is 3,500 meters long. It was built by the Brazilian Odebrecht for US $ 250 million. 2.2 million passengers are expected annually. Flights to Namibia and Portugal are planned .
